David “Perkie” Perkins and Cathy Carlson have loved each other since grade school, long before they had any sense of the meaning of love. “Home In Your Eyes” is their song. Perkie sings it to her at the High School dance.
David and Cathy both die under suspicious circumstances from ingesting antifreeze thinking it was Crème De Menthe.
Were their tragic deaths an accident or has someone killed them?
To find out you’ll have to see the movie.
The deaths of David and Cathy, the first of three reversals in the movie send Jimmy Rogers spiraling down where Jediah Hudson finds him jumping off the top railing of the Langford Bridge.
Will Jediah get to him in time to save him? See the movie.
It was Perkie who talked his friends into creating The Rhythm Kings. Paul “Hand Jive” Donaldson plays drums, Degamo “Frog Man” Williams plays bass, Bob “Speed” Bryant Jr., plays guitar, Henry “Bud” Flowers, plays keyboards, Leonard “Lenny” Goldstein, plays sax, and in act one of Can’t Stop It (the move), new kid in town Carlos Rodreguez joins on acoustic guitar and bongos.
This seven-piece band practiced and often performed at Professor Remembers Roadhouse & Bakery Café, which is owned by Aaron Rizzer, a retired McRecords A & R Director who plays an important role in the Jimmy Rogers Chronicles.
Even though Perkie often tried to persuade his cousin Jimmy to pick up the guitar and join The Rhythm Kings, Jimmy never took an interest until he saw Elvis on TV. Jimmy found the guitar his brother Hal left behind when Hal joined the Marines.
Jimmy’s super human hearing enabled him to learn the guitar quickly. He was inspired to write Can’t Stop It, his first song and the title of the first movie while listening to radio with Hal’s guitar.
Perkie was delighted to have Jimmy join The Rhythm Kings at the High School dance. After the dance the band and girlfriends all go to Professor Remember’s Roadhouse & Bakery Cafe.
That is where Jimmy meets Marie Scappelli and falls in love so fast, he wrote “Lickity Split” and talked the band into taking the stage and performing it ad hoc. Jimmy is hoping it will get Marie’s attention. Will it?
See the movie.
